First established in 1919 as an academy of Agronomy and Forestry, the National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) is now a comprehensive university where one can study a wide range of disciplines such as agriculture, science, engineering, literature, law and politics, business management, and the veterinary medicine. As one of the 12 institutions supported by the Ministry of Education's NT$50 bi l l ion Aim for Top University Plan, multiple initiatives to strengthen the academic quality of the university have been set up. Because of the resources provided by the university, students are poised to excel academically. The academic goal of the university is to nurture young adults to have knowledge of both science and the humanities, capability to communicate and innovate, and a global vision tempered by a consciousness of social responsibilities.
Establisbed in 1919 as an Advanced Academy of Agronomy and Forestry, National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) has developed to be a comprehensive national university. The university consists of eight colleges (Liberal Arts, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Science, Engineering, Life Science, Veterinary Medicine, Management, and Law and Politics), seven research centers, four experimental forest stations, a veterinary hospital, and several agricultural and husbandry experimental farms.
Currently, there are about 800 full-time faculty and 17,000 students at NCHU. In international collaboration, we have 226 sister universities around the world, 15 of which have agreements on dual-degree programs. NCHU is ranked among Asia’s Top 100 Universities by QS World University Rankings this year. In 2010, NCHU was ranked among top 1% of global institutions in terms of article citation rate in 7 disciplines: agricultural sciences, engineering, plant & animal sciences, materials science, chemistry, biology & biochemistry, and clinical medicine.
NCHU is the only university in Taiwan granted with three “Project of Excellence” awards in the field of biology & agricultural biotechnology by the Ministry of Science and Technoogy and Ministry of Education. NCHU has become one of the top and advantageous universities since the school had been granted under the “Development Plan for World Class University and Research Centers of Excellence Program” funded by the Ministry of Education in 2006. NCHU has thrived to provide a learning environment for students to be educated with up-to-date knowledge and global views for them to be prepared for challenges in the future.
National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) was the only university in Central Taiwan awarded funding as part of the Ministry of Education’s Aiming for the Top University Plan. Funding ranges from NT$ 300 to 450 million (around USD 1 million to 1.4 million) annually from 2006 to 2016.
NCHU was ranked among the top global institutions in terms of article citation rate in seven disciplines: Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, Plant & Animal Sciences, Materials Science, Chemistry, Biology & Biochemistry, and Clinical Medicine.
According to the WOS (web of science), NCHU was ranked the first among the domestic universities in the six disciplines of (1) Food Science &Technology, (2) Nutrition & Dietetics, (3) Agricultural, Multidisciplinary, (4) Agricultural, Dairy & Animal Science, (5) Entomology and (6) Mycology.
In 2015, NCHU was ranked 95th university by QS Asia University Rankings.
In 2015, Agriculture & Forestry of NCHU was ranked 101-150 by QS World University Rankings by Subject.
